The Law Clerk will perform complex (journey-level) research and analysis work involving examining,preparing,andevaluatinglegaldocumentsandprovidingassistancetoOPUCattorneys inadministrativelawproceedings,includingcontestedcaseproceedings,rulemakingproceedings, and appeals of regulatory agency decisions before the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT),StateOfficeofAdministrativeHearings(SOAH)andstatecourts.Worksundergeneral supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIALJOB DUTIES:
Conducts legal research, including researching developments in civil law and researching points of law involved in administrative hearings to determine the validity and completeness of cases cited.
AssistsOPUCattorneysinrepresentingresidentialandsmallcommercialconsumers interests before the PUCT, SOAH and state courts.
Assists OPUC attorneys in providing legal advice, counsel, and assistance in regulatory proceedings.
Performsrelatedwork as assigned.
REQUIREDMINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledgeoflegalprinciples,practices,andproceedings;andagencylaws, regulations, and rules.
Ability to prepare legal documents; to interpret and apply laws, rules and regulations;toconductresearch;tosummarizefindings;andtocommunicate effectively.
Enrolledinanaccreditedlawschoolorgraduatedfromanaccreditedlawschool with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or a Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
Recent graduates awaiting results from the Texas Bar Exam are encouraged to apply. UponpassingTexasBarresults,candidatemaybepromotedtoanAttorneyIposition.
Thepositionmayrequireadditionalworkhoursincludingevenings,weekends,and/or holidays to meet critical deadlines.
