JOB SUMMARY
An individual in this position is responsible for providing reference, reader’s advisory, adult programming, and technical assistance services to the public and assists patrons in performing research, locating information, and finding requested materials.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists patrons of all ages and backgrounds with locating information on a wide variety of subjects.
- Performs and coordinates interlibrary loan services
- Coordinates reference desk coverage and materials.
- Teaches or facilitates educational classes in information searching, software applications and use of electronic resources.
- Develops and implements programs for adult patrons.
- Assists patrons in the use of the on-line catalog and other library equipment.
- Evaluates, weeds, reviews, and recommends selection of library materials and electronic resources.
- Prepares bibliographies, information directories, information pathfinders, website and social media content, and in-house displays.
- Provides readers’ advisory assistance.
- Prepares publicity for library programs and contributes to the library newsletter.
- Assists in grant writing and administration.
- Participates in outreach efforts to community service and business organizations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of library computer services, Internet and electronic resources, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job.
- Skill in effective time management and resource utilization.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to organize and administer resources for maximum efficiency.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to research, compile and summarize a variety of information and statistical data.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees, management, and the public.
- Ability to pay strong attention to detail.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is sedentary to light work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force. occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly. Additionally,
the following physical abilities are required: Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time. Must be able to reach, bend and stretch. Work involves some exposure to dust
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a normal office environment. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.

Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Master’s degree with major coursework in Library Science from an ALA accredited university or college.
- Two (2) years of related experience.
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
- Public library experience preferred.
- May be required to work one evening per week and will be required to work approximately one Saturday per month.
