Job Summary:
The Westchester Medical Center Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is seeking an attending physiatrist in musculoskeletal medicine to join our growing program.
Responsibilities:
- Administrative/Clinical
- Provide sports medicine/musculoskeletal physiatrist services, including the performance of all consultations, procedures, and other related services required by patients.
- Develop an active outpatient sports medicine and musculoskeletal practice for the evaluation and care of patients with sports-related injuries, neck/back pain, acute/chronic pain, and other musculoskeletal-related disorders. Clinical services should include peripheral joint injections, including intra-articular, tendon sheath and bursa, botulinum toxin injections, musculoskeletal ultrasound-guided procedures and electrodiagnostic studies.
- Educate all potential referral sources, including other physician practices and community groups, on the clinical services that you provide in order to grow your clinical practice.
- Collaborate closely with other related specialties/clinical departments in the care of your patients.
- Establish relationships with the community and school-based athletic programs with the goal of providing sideline game coverage and sporting event coverage such as marathons.
- Assist in cross-coverage of the acute inpatient rehabilitation unit as needed.
- Participate in weeknight and weekend on-call coverage of the inpatient rehab unit rotating in general proportion to the number of physicians in the department.
- Participate in Department of PM&R committees as requested.
- Teaching
- Provide resident and other teaching services as reasonably required by the Director for residents and/or fellows.
- Work with the Graduate Medical Education Office to maintain full accreditation and work diligently to develop and improve the residency program(s) as appropriate to musculoskeletal rehab services.
- You will be eligible for a primary academic appointment at the School of Medicine, New York Medical College, at the recommendation of the Academic Chair of Rehabilitation Medicine and with approval of the Dean.
- Participate in the academic training of medical and other students and participate on NYMC or other academic affiliate committees as required, to maintain positive relationships with NYMC and any other Network academic affiliate.
- Supervise medical students rotating through outpatient clinics.
- Participate in the medical student didactics lecture series.
- Mentor medical students interested in PM&R.
- Attend department grand rounds, journal clubs, and faculty meetings.
- Although not a requirement, the IRF medical director may also opt to participate in more formalized teaching opportunities at the School of Medicine. Some options will include serving as a small group preceptor for the Fundamentals of Clinical Medicine courses (FCM-1 or FCM-2), presenting clinical lectures to 1st- and 2nd-year medical students and participating in the 3rd-year students’ longitudinal instruction curriculum.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Candidates must be board certified or board eligible in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
- Must have, or be eligible to obtain, an active NYS medical license.
