The Marketing Department of Arnold & Porter has an opening for a Business Development (BD) Specialist. This role may be located in the New York or Washington, DC office.
The BD Specialist supports a wide range of business development activities, particularly focused on the Litigation Department, including the White Collar, Complex Litigation, Securities Enforcement & Litigation, and Appellate & Supreme Court practice groups. This position works with lawyers, business development managers, and other firm staff to handle practice group and individual attorney business development and marketing efforts. The majority of time will be devoted to pitches and proposals, submissions for legal publications, and coordinating webinars, sponsorships, and conferences. The role also may be called on to support other practices, industry, or working groups as needed. This position reports to the Director of Business Development.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works with Business Development Managers and/or attorneys to support marketing, business, and client development activities and projects for designated groups and initiatives.
- Supports the RFP, pitch, and proposal processes from planning through submission.
- Works with attorneys, marketing staff, and other firm personnel in the development and execution of proposals and presentations.
- Understands and identifies most applicable content, edits existing content, and drafts new content for proposals and pitches.
- Produces initial draft of materials.
- Coordinates information and research requests with Research Analysts, Accounting & Finance personnel, and other administrative personnel.
- Coordinates assembly/production and delivery of finished product.
- Drives data collection and coordination for practice group submissions to Chambers, The Legal 500, Law360, and Benchmark Litigation, among others.
- Manages in-person and virtual conferences, seminars, forums, sponsorships, and speaking engagements; assist with internal and external events as needed, including on ground support.
- Maintains practice group content for central Foundation database.
- Leverages CRM and Experience databases to identify and confirm relationship targets, and relevant experience for business development opportunities.
- Drafts and updates marketing collateral, including relevant practice group brochures, one-pagers, PowerPoint decks, attorney bios, experience lists, among others.
- Mentors junior staff on best practices.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of three (3) years related experience in marketing, business development or client relations role, preferably in a professional services company or firm. Legal marketing experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of business development processes and proposal process preferred. Ability to work well under pressure essential.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Exceptional Microsoft Office skills, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Proficiency in CRM and other experience database systems is a plus.Ability to work confidently and effectively with partners and senior administration of the firm.
- Excellent project management skills, with keen attention to detail and an ability to prioritize and execute multiple ongoing tasks often under tight deadlines.
- An ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume, deadline driven environment.
- “Team player” mentality with great collegiality responding well to an evolving environment and is willing to be flexible and lend support where needed.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $82,000 to $105,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
