DeSoto Animal Clinic is looking to hire a full-time licensed or certified veterinary technician to join our current team of four veterinarians and five C.V.T.’s . We are looking for an enthusiastic team player with a customer service-oriented mind to join our staff providing small animal care for Manatee County. Each full time C.V.T. is scheduled to work four weekdays and alternate Saturday shifts. We have a great team environment, and you will get the chance to really utilize your skills.

We are located on Florida’s Gulf Coast between Tampa Bay and Sarasota in scenic West Bradenton, Florida. We are within an 8-mile drive of the beaches of Anna Maria Island. This area has many activities including water sports, museums, food, outdoor activities, culture, camping, hiking… the list goes on.
C.V.T. Job Description The purpose of this position is to serve as a clinical/surgical technician to the veterinarians at DeSoto Animal Clinic, to provide knowledgeable care to each patient and client, and to be a professional example/role model for each staff member. This position requires the employee to perform record-keeping duties related to animal patient care and treatment, and to provide miscellaneous support to the veterinary practice and staff. This position requires a practical knowledge of hospital organization and services, the basic rules and regulations governing visitors and animal patient treatment, data entry, proper animal restraint and a practical knowledge of the standard procedures, veterinary records and terminology used in the hospital.
General responsibilities: Meticulously maintain computerized medical records.
Accurately invoice in EzyVet.
Educate clients.
Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments prescribed by a veterinarian.
Observe the behavior and condition of animals.
Provide skilled nursing care or emergency first aid to recovering or injured animals.
Collect and record animal case histories.
Properly label and dispense medications as directed by doctor. Present client with medications, instructions and other items to take home.
Assist doctor in exam rooms as an assistant, when needed.
Lead support staff by setting a good example of professionalism and skilled knowledge.
Meticulously maintain equipment.
Monitor inventory of supplies, especially treatment and surgical supplies.
Clinical/Floor: Receive transferred patients from B.V.E.
Care for ICU patients closely.
Manage flow of the treatment area and prioritize procedures based on importance.
Help assistants prepare patients for exams.
Perform various procedures at the direction of the veterinarian.
Perform diagnostic imaging.
Sort and prepare lab samples to be sent out.
Prepare and read in-house lab samples.
Complete tech appointments in a timely manner.
Surgical: Review charts for the following day’s procedures.
Maintain surgical packs and inventory of surgical items.
Stock and maintain surgical suite.
Discuss procedure with clients at intake when applicable.
Prepare patients for surgical procedure.
Induce and monitor patients under anesthesia.
Assist in surgical procedures when necessary.
Perform dental prophies, take dental radiographs, prep surgical sites aseptically.
Recover patients post-anesthetically.
Assist surgeon with discharge medications and notes. Discharge patients when applicable.
The C.V.T.’s work under the direct supervision of the Veterinarians and Lead Technician, who will indicate assignment, limitations, and priorities. Recurring assignments should be performed independently.
Skills and knowledge: Educate support staff on animal care and handling.
Knowledge of clinic procedures and operating instructions for assisting with appointments, completing medical records, recording information, dispensing medications and products, relaying information to clients regarding animal care, and maintaining standards of care and clinic protocols.
Knowledge of the spelling and meaning of commonly used terminology of veterinary medicine to accurately record information.
Personal contact with visitors, other staff members and animal owners affected by a variety of problems is required. Must accurately relay owner’s concerns and medical complaints of the animal(s) to the staff members who will be involved with the patient’s care.

Requirements
The following skills are required for application Current licensing and/or certification, or process of getting licensed in the state of Florida
Proficient in placing IV catheters in stable and critical patients
Monitoring anesthesia and anticipating problems
Proficient in phlebotomy
Knowledge of in house Idexx blood machines
Knowledge of digital radiology
Interest in dental cleanings and dental radiography
Able to multitask in a fast-paced practice
The ability to effectively communicate estimates and treatment plans with clients
