THE OPPORTUNITY
As our Conference & Event Planner, you’ll play a leading role in bringing events to life — from concept to completion. Whether it’s a strategic roundtable for a small group or our bi-annual circuit judicial conference with more than 1,000 attendees, you’ll manage every detail to ensure a seamless and memorable experience.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the planning and execution of meetings and conferences, including venue sourcing, contracting, scheduling, and logistics.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for vendors, speakers, sponsors, and venue staff — bringing a calm, professional, and personable presence to every interaction.
- Manage timelines, budgets, contracts, and internal coordination with precision.
- Collaborate with program teams to ensure every event aligns with our values and reflects our high standards.
- Guide internal colleagues (who may not specialize in event planning) to help them effectively support event goals.
- Travel occasionally for site visits and on-site execution.

Location: Remote / TBD – Regional telework opportunity within the States of the Fourth Circuit (MD, NC, SC, VA, and WV).
Appointment: Career / Full-time

PAY RANGE
$70,894 - $115,213 (CL-28) Placement within the range is based on experience. Pay range listed is from the Rest of the US pay table and could be higher based on your location. Pay tables are available at Court Pay Rates.

Requirements
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 5–7 years of experience planning conferences, meetings, or large-scale events.
- Skill in evaluating, selecting, and negotiating with vendors.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication skills — professional, clear, and kind.
- Ability to work and stay calm under pressure.
- A passion for creating thoughtful and engaging event experiences.
- Proficiency in Excel, SharePoint, Cvent, or similar tools.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must be a citizen of the United States or meet requirements for compensation under current law. Positions with the U.S. Courts are excepted service appointments, meaning they are at will and can be terminated with or without cause by the Court. Employees are subject to The Judicial Code of Ethics and Conduct, which is available to applicants for review upon request. All applicant information is subject to verification. Appointment to the position is provisional pending a suitability determination by the Court based on the results of a background check, which includes fingerprinting. Employees are required to use Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) for payroll deposits.
