Job Summary
The Director of Nursing Professional Development manages education for nursing staff at Baylor Scott and White Health. They create programs to enhance skills. Responsibilities include designing curriculum, fostering learning communities, managing orientation, conducting refresher courses, empowering executives, and providing education on critical topics. The Director identifies unique training needs in the organization. They design, choose, and execute programs for different departments.
Essential Functions of the Role
- Manage the progression and advancement of nursing professionals within your remit.
- Develop plans to improve nursing education aligned with business goals. Execute strategies to streamline professional development.
- Manage educational programs for staff to ensure safe and effective care delivery. Evaluate, design, and execute programs.
- Use appropriate teaching methods and materials to meet various learning goals. Focus on competency-based design and supplemental materials for different learning settings. This includes traditional classrooms, independent study, and technology use.
- Supervise transition to practice programs for newly graduated registered nurses and licensed vocational nurses.
- Encourage sharing new knowledge in nursing to improve practice, meet goals, and enhance patient care. Promote research too.
- Assess current nursing practices, develop new solutions to enhance patient care, and improve processes affecting safety and outcomes.
- Partner with colleges, universities, and technical programs to align curriculum designs to match our organization's patient care education requirements.
- Steer process improvement initiatives in pursuit of delivering top-quality nursing care and patient outcomes.
Key Success Factors
- Knowledge and background in nursing education, nurturing, advancement, and evaluation are essential.
- Certification in nursing, such as Nursing Professional Development, Nurse Executive, and Nurse Executive Advanced would be an added advantage.
- Capable of creating and implementing nursing leadership education, growth programs, and evaluating learning needs and impacts.
- Familiarity with teaming up across various departments and clinical disciplines within a large, intricate healthcare organization is preferred.
- Partnership and facilitation skills are important for this role.
- Fluent verbal, written, and presentation abilities are a must.

QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION - Masters Degree
- EXPERIENCE - (5) Five Years of Experience
- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Registered Nurse (RN)
- Nurse Executive - BC (NE-BC), Nrs Exec Advanced Cert (NEA-BC), Nursing Prof Dev BC (NPD-BC): Must have one upon hire or within (1) one year.
- Nurse Executive-Board Certified (NE-BC)
- Nurse Executive Advanced-Board Certified (NEA-BC)
- Nursing Professional Development-Board Certification (NPD-BC).
