Summary
The Colville School District is accepting applications for a 1:1 Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This is a one-to-one nursing assignment that requires riding the bus with the student from home to school and school to home. The nurse will provide direct nursing care, ventilator and tracheostomy management, and emergency response as needed. The nurse will serve as a member of the Colville School District staff and collaborate closely with the district nurse, health care providers, school personnel, and the student's family. Candidates must hold a current Washington RN or LPN license.
Essential Duties
- Provide constant 1:1 nursing care for a student during the school day and on the bus.
- Monitor ventilator and tracheostomy function, oxygen saturation, vital signs, and overall medical status.
- Perform suctioning, trach care, ventilator management, and emergency interventions as outlined in the student's care plan.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physician orders.
- Work as a positive and collaborative member of the school staff to foster the primary goals of the Colville School District.
- Implement and follow the student's Individualized Health Care Plan and Emergency Care Plan.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services, observations, and interventions.
- Communicate effectively with the district nurse, building staff, health care providers, and parents/guardians.
- Safely accompany the student on the school bus to and from school daily.
- Maintain required medical supplies and ensure equipment readiness.
- Participate in required training and district health/safety procedures.
- Perform other health-related duties as assigned, within the scope of practice.
Physical Demands
- The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- The employee must have the ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching are required to provide care.
Work Environment
- Care provided in the classroom, bus, and other school environments.
- Exposure to inside/outside weather during transportation.
- Moderate to loud noise levels depending on setting
- Frequent interruptions and occasional emergency-type situations.
Salary & Benefits Schedule
The position follows the student calendar (summers off, Christmas break off, spring break off, etc.)
This position has the potential to be a part of the Colville Education Association (CEA) Teacher’s Bargaining Unit. Salary is in accordance with the Colville Education Association (CEA) Collective Bargaining Agreement. The position includes a full comprehensive benefit package with medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D, and long-term disability, as well as participation in Washington State’s school retirement programs. Qualifications
- Current Washington State RN or LPN license.
- Experience with ventilator and tracheostomy care preferred.
- Ability to follow physician orders and nursing care plans.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of confidentiality standards.
- Employment contingent upon Washington State Patrol and FBI background clearance.
