DescriptionSIU Carbondale Student Health Services is seeking qualified applicants to fill a full-time physician position. The selected candidate will provide primary care to a diverse population of students. Care will include acute and preventative services, women's health care, and primary care of students with mental health needs. The selected individual will work within the scope of the Student Health Services capabilities and within the stated mission statement of the University and the Student Health Services department. Compensation includes a comprehensive benefits package, malpractice coverage, and salary commensurate with experience.
The anticipated salary for this position is $14,328.00 monthly ($171,936.00 annually). Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Examples of Duties
- Major provider of medical care for SIU students expected to engage in the practice of medicine with a group practice model, maintaining medial excellence and promoting the mission and goals of the Student Health Services.
- Engages in acute and chronic outpatient medical care for the student population, seeing patients by appointment. Provides evaluation, diagnosis treatment, patient education and follow-up appropriate to individual needs. Some of these responsibilities may be discharged by delegation to members of the nursing staff, wellness staff, or to other appropriate intermediate-level providers with appropriate supervision and protocols.
- Participates in the quality assurance program of the Student Health Services. Provides consultation and advice for enhancement of the quality assurance programs as requested.
- Promotes a lifestyle of physical activity, fitness and good nutrition, in addition to providing acute medical care. Provides education in appropriate self-care and risk factor avoidance. Refers students to appropriate on-campus services in promoting the above described model of health care.
- Consults with other members of the health care team as needed to provide assistance and support for their roles in the patient care process.
- Arranges referrals for hospitalization or specialist care for those students requiring medical care beyond that available on campus.
- Maintains medical and controlled substances licensure required for the full practice of medicine in the State of Illinois.
- Engages in continuing medical education in accordance with accepted community standards. Leave time and funds may be provided for these activities.
- Maintains current CPR certification.
- Attends scheduled meetings of the medical staff and the medical/nursing joint staff unless prevented by illness or urgent patient care responsibilities.
- Participates in staff training activities within Student health Services as requested by the Medical Chief of Staff. Serves on Student Heath Services committees and attends other SHS and University meetings as authorized/requested by the SHS Director and/or Medical Chief of Staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Medical Chief of Staff. The Physician's responsibilities are limited to those duties which can be reasonably carried out within the limitations of available Student Health Services facilities and support.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Must be Illinois licensed M.D. or D.O. or eligible for licensure in the state of Illinois. Controlled substance license with the state of Illinois and DEA registration must be obtained prior to the proposed date of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Residency trained in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, or Internal Medicine preferred. Board Eligibility or certification preferred. Three years of medical experience preferred. Experience in care of college aged population is desired.
