Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunities in U.S. Mortality and Life Expectancy
University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), School of Public and Population Health
The University of Texas Medical Branch is seeking two postdoctoral fellows to join innovative research projects focused on U.S. mortality, life expectancy, and aging. We welcome applicants with expertise in demography, mortality, aging, or immigrant health. These positions offer a unique opportunity to contribute to nationally recognized research initiatives on aging populations.
Fellows will work closely with Dr. Neil K. Mehta and benefit from the rich research environment within UTMB’s School of Public and Population Health (SPPH). With an externally funded research portfolio exceeding $22 million, SPPH is home to leading scholars in aging and health, data science, infectious disease, bioethics, and other critical fields in public health and the social sciences. Fellows will also have opportunities to collaborate with a broad network of faculty across UTMB and partnering institutions in the U.S. and Europe.

Fellows will be embedded in a vibrant aging research community that includes:
Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center (OAIC)
Hispanic Established Population for Epidemiologic Studies of the Elderly (H-EPESE)
Resource Center for Minority Aging Research (RCMAR)
Fellows may also form a mentoring team that provides expert training and guidance to support their transition toward becoming independently funded researchers.

Requirements
Fellowship duties include but are not limited to the following:
Leading and contributing to high-impact research initiatives
Planning and performing advanced data analyses
Preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals
Presenting research at professional meetings and conferences
Participating in professional development activities, including UTMB’s Postdoctoral Professional Development Certificate Program and training in the responsible conduct of research
