JOIN THE ANIMAL PROTECTION LEAGUE – Make a Difference in East Texas
The Animal Protection League (APL), a well-established nonprofit organization in the heart of East Texas, is seeking a full-time veterinarian to join our dedicated team. Have you ever considered making the switch to high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) work? If so, this could be your calling.
For over 30 years, APL has proudly delivered affordable, high-quality veterinary services to 30 communities across East Texas. In that time, we've spayed and neutered over 250,000 pets—and that number continues to grow daily.
Why APL?
- Work-life balance: Enjoy shorter workdays, competitive pay, and minimal stress.
- No after-hours or emergency duties.
- Limited client interaction.
- No turning patients away due to cost.
- Love surgery? You'll be right at home here.
- APL focuses exclusively on spay/neuter and preventive wellness care for cats and dogs. Services include vaccinations, heartworm/FeLV/FIV testing, parasite prevention, deworming, microchipping, nail trims, and anal gland expressions.
Our ideal candidate is comfortable performing surgeries on pregnant, cryptorchid, and pediatric patients—or is eager to learn. While our typical surgical caseload is 25–35 pets per day, we’re happy to help you ramp up gradually if you're new to HQHVSN work. You'll have the full support of experienced veterinarians who are happy to mentor or simply chat about what it’s like working here.
What You Can Expect
- Short workdays: Typically 4–5 hours, starting around 9:30–10:00 a.m. and ending by 2:00–3:00 p.m., once surgeries are complete.
- Salary: $166,400–$312,000 annually, depending on caseload and number of days worked (half surgery load (16) = $800 day / full surgery load (35) = $1000 day - 4, 5 or 6 days a week)
- Strict surgical guidelines: We do not perform surgery on pets over 6 years old, over 80 pounds, or with neurological conditions.
- Strong local partnerships: We maintain excellent relationships with local veterinarians and refer all sick or injured pets to private practices.
Tools & Perks
- EVET software, Miltex surgical instruments, and top-tier suture brands
- Paid benefits: PTO, holidays, insurance, licensing, CE, and generous Christmas bonuses
- Mileage reimbursement
- Bonus perk: If you work at our Longview location, our director cooks a homemade lunch—dessert included!
- Want to hear it from someone on the inside? Feel free to reach out to any of our current veterinarians—they’ll be happy to share their experience.
APL is proud to serve 30 growing communities across East Texas. We’re expanding rapidly and always looking for compassionate, skilled veterinarians to join our team. We hope to be able to serve 40 locations by next year.
