VTS (ECC) Veterinary Technician within the Emergency & Critical Care Service

About the Position: We are seeking full-time VTS (ECC) Veterinary Technicians to join our ICU teams within the Emergency and Critical Care services.
Mastery of advanced nursing skills related to emergency and critical care
Support veterinarians to ensure exceptional veterinary care; advocate for patients, and educate clients
Understanding of ECC patient's condition and treatment, and your role in their nursing management
Advanced skill in emergency action directed toward the assessment, treatment, and stabilization of a patient with an urgent medical problem
Advanced skill in the treatment of a patient with a life-threatening or potentially life-threatening illness or injury
Deliver exceptional, compassionate nursing care to patients utilizing a variety of technical skills
Willingness to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members in an on-the-floor position where patient care and team member education will be on the forefront of the position
Work closely with the Learning and Development Coordinator to provide in-house education
Constantly advance your knowledge base and skill set
Able to provide professional, clear, and effective communication
Demonstrate superior client service
Maintain an optimistic outlook
Comfortable with digital medical records and treatment orders
Can safely restrain patients
Has excellent knowledge of common disease processes and pharmacology
Proficient with time management and punctuality
Proficient with medical calculations
Comfortable with setting up and monitoring CRI’s
Proficient with venipuncture and IVC placement
Proficient with using various in-house equipment such as NOVA, Catalyst, Procyte, Coag and submitting various lab samples to external labs
Can place central lines, NG tubes, and u-caths
Comfortable with transfusions and blood typing
Can maintain patients on mechanical ventilator and hi-flow oxygen
Assists ECC doctors with procedures
Proficient at patient positioning and taking digital radiographs
Can setup, monitor, interpret, and maintain patient monitoring equipment (ECG, SpO2, CO2, NIBP)
Comfortable with use and interpretation of telemetry system
Proficient with patient triage, procedure workups, admitting & rounding patients, and discharges
Comfortable with common sedating protocols, monitoring patients pre-op, intra-op, and during recovery of sedation
Can setup, maintain, and troubleshoot multiparameter monitors (SpO2, CO2, ECG, NIBP), Doppler, and other common emergency equipment (O2 cage, ventilator)
Shift: 7am to 7pm fulltime (36 hour) benefit position within the ECC services including weekend and holiday coverage. Days TBD.
Personal Requirements:
Minimum of 18 years old
Minimum 5 years working as a veterinary technician
Minimum 3 years’ experience in an emergency and/or specialty hospital preferred
Graduate from an accredited AVMA program preferred
CVT, LVT, or RVT
Active VTS in ECC
Must have the ability to support and foster an environment of diversity, inclusion, collaboration, and empathy
Must have good interpersonal relationship and communication skills
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced working environment
Is detailed oriented and reliable
Has a high commitment to providing exceptional patient care
Excellent client communication skills
Must be well-spoken, professional, approachable, and maintain a positive outlook
Proficient at working with digital records and using Microsoft Word/Excel
Physical Effort: Work requires lifting, carrying, and restraining animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs.). Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position.
Compensation: Is based on education, experience, credentials, and skill level.
