POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Director of Interprofessional Education will work with the Interprofessional Education Steering Committee to develop and implement the Interprofessional Education activities for students from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, the School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine, the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, and other health-related programs at Case Western Reserve University. The director will oversee the implementation of the activities chosen by the Interprofessional Education Steering Committee, working in close collaboration with faculty and staff from the health programs. The director will manage the large-scale implementation of these complex educational programs across schools.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lead, manage, and implement Interprofessional Education sessions for students from the Schools of Nursing, medicine, dental medicine, the Mandel School and other health programs. Work closely with the Interprofessional Education Steering Committee to understand the vision; organize panels and lecture events focused on patient care and key issues affecting healthcare. Develop learning objectives and structure educationally focused sessions and student assignments that meet the learning objectives. Collaborate with the health schools faculty to determine details of the sessions. Activities may take place in person, remotely (synchronously or asynchronously), or in a hybrid format. Coordinate with faculty content design teams, simulation center staff, Mediavision staff and UTech on technology and resources needed for in person, and remote delivery of Interprofessional Education lectures or panel sessions. (30%)
Leverage each of the health schools existing community health clinic sites to collaborate with students from other health programs. (20%)
Collaborate with the schools clinical simulations programs to integrate them into the Interprofessional Education programs, ensuring comprehensive and responsible training for all participants. (10%)
Develop and administer assignments and assessments for students that follow up on Interprofessional Education activities. Work closely with the Interprofessional Education Steering Committee to ensure that assignments and assessments align with the vision. (10%)
Oversee and track student progress in Interprofessional Education activities. Address student issues where needed and ensure confidentiality. Interface with the health schools to provide information. (10%)
Facilitate multi-school and multi-institution collaborations. Communicate program information to students, other learners, staff, faculty, and other stakeholders. (10%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Facilitate research affiliated with multi-program Interprofessional Education activities. (5%)
Perform other duties as assigned. (5%)
CONTACTS
Department: Continuous contact with the administrative assistant regarding Interprofessional Education activities.
University: Frequent contact with the Interprofessional Education Steering Committee -composed of faculty and vice/associate deans of the health programs, to develop and implement the Interprofessional Education activities. Frequent contact with other faculty and staff in the health programs; and regular contact with deans of the health programs and Vice Provost for Interdisciplinary and International Initiatives.
External: Regular contact with the university affiliates (including Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth, the VA system), neighboring colleges and universities, the City of Cleveland and neighboring cities in Northeast Ohio, and community organizations regarding Interprofessional Education activities. Occasional contact with academic entities and professional groups throughout the country regarding Interprofessional Education activities.
Students: Frequent contact with students to support learning outcomes, provide information and guidance related to Interprofessional Education activities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise the administrative assistant.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: 8 years of relevant experience in an academic environment is required. Experience working with large courses or cohorts of students, experience within interprofessional education, and university-level teaching experience are preferred.
Education: Master's degree required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Knowledgeable about Interprofessional Education Competencies, with demonstrated experience in development of Interprofessional Education curriculum and programming.
Ability to work in a demanding environment, demonstrating sensitivity to various constituent interests.
Demonstrated professionalism and confidentiality when involved with sensitive educational matters. Ability to maintain a mature, diplomatic, knowledgeable, and professional attitude at all times.
Strong course development and management skills, including developing learning objectives and learning activities and assignments that enable students to meet those objectives.
Ability to work effectively and coordinate activities for very large numbers of students.
Strong project management skills, including experience in strategic planning, program and project development, implementation, financial and operational analysis, and evaluation
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others in multiple teams to effectively and efficiently complete tasks, projects, and strategic plans with minimal supervision and general direction.
Proficiency with course management systems, such as Canvas, as well as general computer skills/systems/software proficiency. Proficiency with utilizing management tools, such as the Google suite of applications, Microsoft Office, Qualtrics, Canva, Zoom, etc. Comfortable with learning new platforms through self-education and directed just-in-time learning.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Insight into when and how to seek advice, input and assistance from colleagues and supervisors.
Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest.
Ability to meet consistent attendance.
Ability to interact with multiple stakeholders (colleagues, supervisors, learners, community partners and customers) face to face.
WORKING CONDITIONS
General office environment at the Samson Pavilion, other Case Western Reserve University campus locations, or locations at other organizations. May require local travel in Northeast Ohio. Occasional early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends may be required. This position does not have exposure to hazards.
